The Community FoodBank of New Jersey Assists People in Need By Maryann Sahoury

Standard

As one who has organized food drives and collected essentials for the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, I value the organization’s important work in the state. The nonprofit’s activities range from serving meals and providing groceries to offering educational programs and training. A vital food distribution facility, the food bank serves other New Jersey nonprofits such as shelters, food pantries, and soup kitchens. The organization provides nearly 40 million pounds of food annually, feeding some 900,000 people. Since 1982, the Community FoodBank has distributed more than 400 million pounds of food.

Additionally, the Community FoodBank runs programs such as the Kids Division and Community Kitchen, as well as a thrift shop. In the Community Kitchen, staffers and Food Service Training Academy students prepare and freeze food, such as vegetable soup, mashed potatoes, marinara, and shepherd’s pie, for other organizations to use in the future.

Through the Kids Division, the food bank provides children with new clothes, healthy meals, and school supplies. For more information on the organization, visit NJFoodBank.org.
